Our 2013 Petite Sirah was crafted with fruit from Demattei Vineyard in Calistoga, near the northern edge of Napa Valley. This vineyard site delivers the warm, sunny conditions needed to ripen Petite Sirah to its fullest expression. We also blended a touch of fruit from Perata Vineyard in Yountville into the wine.
The 2013 harvest was bountiful across Napa Valley, producing fruit of excellent quality. A warm, dry spring brought early bud break, ensuring canopy vigor and creating ideal conditions for flowering and fruit set. The grapes benefitted from extended time on the vine, yielding rich, ripe flavor in the glass.
Prior to fermentation, the grapes were gently sorted, destemmed and pressed. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation and was aged for 22 months in a combination of new and neutral finely grained French oak barrels. Oak aging allowed complex notes of smoke, toast and walnuts to emerge in the glass, deftly balancing the varietal’s rich and fruity aromatics.
