Our 2014 Meritage is a carefully composed blend of four classic red Bordeaux varieties from coveted regions in Napa Valley, including Soda Canyon, Coombsville and Rutherford. We selected vineyard sites whose precise growing conditions and fruit quality help to develop rich, sultry red wines.
The 2014 growing season was another remarkable vintage for all varieties across Napa Valley. Exposure to late fall rain was largely avoided, thanks to one of the earliest harvests on record in the region. Although much of the fruit had already been picked by late August, a significant earthquake struck Napa on August 24, leaving growers and vintners with some unexpected twists during harvest season.
After harvest, the grapes were sorted, gently pressed and fermented at 75°F. Following a 14-day maceration, which aided in the extraction of rich color and flavor from the grapes, the juice was pressed off the stems and seeds and aged in a mix of new and neutral French oak barrels for 18 months.
